Welcome to New York Nobody

Hello, all! My name is Kara Shannon. I am a 27 year old nobody living in the Big Apple. I live at the tippity top of Manhattan with my amazing fiance, Laura, my dog, Ralphie, our cat, Daisy, and approximately 22 rats that I have yet to name. I started New York Nobody when I first moved to the city back in August of 2021. We moved at a weird time. Masks were still mandatory, you had to have your Covid vaccine cards ready to go for any business to peruse, and, finally, it was just New York in general.

I had always dreamt of living here. From when I was a little girl I wanted to be this... a nobody. I wanted to walk down the streets with headphones on full blast day dreaming of being a successful actor while people walk right by and a dog randomly pees on my leg. That was the dream. But growing up in the south, South Carolina to be exact, doesn't really prepare you for this crazy, unpredictable, and difficult life of living in the city.

On top of Covid regulations and the culture shock of moving to this city, our apartment also flooded two weeks in and we had to move. That's another blog post altogether, but in the meantime, don't live in a basement apartment. EVER. Needless to say, the move here was a lot. I needed an outlet to share my miserable feelings of being here. I also didn't realize something very vital in moving to the city. Being a nobody is very lonely. I needed people to talk to. Hence the start of New York Nobody on Instagram.

I thought I would keep up with it and maybe make some friends through it. That didn't happen. I only posted for a couple of weeks. Sometimes it's hard for me to keep up with stuff. It's an ADHD thing I guess. Another blog post in the making. We have a lot to discuss.

I'm bringing this back because I had a career dream when I moved here. To be an actor. To be able to support myself through doing something I love. But being consumed by the every day life of trying to survive in this city has taken over that dream. I want to hold myself accountable and bring back that little nobody's big dream.

So, new friends, or to my one reader, welcome. Let's get our dreams in order and let's chat about some real life NYC stuff. New York Nobody is officially a go! <3
